We’re Russ and Morgan, wedding & event visionaries with over 15 years of experience creating and capturing magical moments.

From the beginning, we each found ourselves taking great pleasure and fulfillment in bringing others joy through timeless photographs, music, and sharing stories.

And now, we’d love to share our story.
MORGAN
The year was 2010, and my career path was set working for the family business in employee benefits. But I needed a creative outlet, so I enrolled in a local community photography class. Little did I know it would change my life forever!
Shortly after the class, a good friend saw my work and fell head over heels. She insisted I photograph her wedding.
The wedding was at an outdoor venue, in January, and the high that day was fifteen degrees. When I got home that night, I remember thinking, This is the most fun I’ve ever had working. This is what I want to do forever! Since that night, I’ve been using photography to turn treasured moments into gorgeous keepsakes my friends and clients will cherish for generations to come.
RUSS
During my younger days, I played in a band and had an amazing sound system. A coworker asked to borrow it for his sister’s wedding, but I wasn’t willing to put my equipment in the hands of someone else. So I volunteered to DJ the wedding myself!
The night was filled with energy, excitement, and music, and I had a blast setting the tone of the evening through music.
That night, I got asked to work two other weddings, and I agreed. Requests kept coming in, and a new business was born. For the past 15 years, I’ve been bringing the music, the joy, and setting the mood for weddings and events with my DJ and MC services.
OUR WORLDS COLLIDE
Fast forward to 2017.
It’s a beautiful spring wedding. The DJ/Master of Ceremonies seems to be effortlessly keeping the beats flowing and sharing the love story of the bride and groom. According to him, there’s a pretty cute photographer capturing those special moments for the happy couple. (Spoiler alert – it’s us!)
We were both independently contracted to work the same wedding as the DJ/Master of Ceremonies and photographer. As the night progressed, we got to talking, and the connection was strong. When the evening ended, we agreed to a date.
After that first lunch date, there was no looking back!
We knew we were meant to be together. We were soon engaged, then married two short months later. In true wedding professional fashion, we were married on a Wednesday and both worked weddings that weekend!

HAPPILY EVER AFTER
Since our wedding in 2018, a lot has happened.
We’ve married our businesses to create Powell Weddings & Events, and we’re both lucky enough to spend our days doing what we love with the person we love! We have the privilege of traveling all over the US capturing unforgettable moments and curating epic experiences for destination weddings and events.
At times, it truly feels like we’re living a real-life fairy tale. Between spending time with our family, including two teenagers, and being a part of our client’s milestone moments, we’re living our dream.
Oftentimes, while working a wedding, we’ll catch each other’s eye across the room and smile remembering that being part of someone else’s wedding was the beginning of our own love story.
